Creating a Vision for our Future Here’s your chance to make a difference – in your life, the life of your community and your Territory. This is your invitation to play a role in shaping our future. You can help the NWT’s leaders develop a common vision and roadmap for the NWT that will chart our path forward for the next 20 to 30 years. Every opinion counts As the next generation of Northern leaders and residents, you have a chance to think ahead and identify the issues you think need attention to ensure your future is prosperous and sustainable.

You are the most educated and technologically literate generation in our Territory’s history.

You have lots of good ideas to offer.

What are your hopes, dreams, ideas and views for your future? What are your solutions to the challenges that you see around you?

Whether you are 15 or 25 – no matter where you live, whatever your background – your opinion counts.

What difference will it make?

All of your input will be brought forward to members of the Northern Leaders’ Forum.

They will review and discuss your ideas, identify common themes for a common vision for the Territory and discuss the actions we can take to achieve it.

So what do you have to say?

To start the conversation, here are six questions being asked of all NWT residents and one focussed specifically on youth:

1. What do you wish the NWT to look like 20 to 30 years from now?

2. How do you believe this vision of a future NWT can be achieved and what can you contribute to help make it happen?

3. What do you think of our unique system of consensus government? What ideas do you have to make this system of government sustainable?

4. What legacy should the current generation leave to future generations in terms of finding the right balance between economic development and conservation?

5. What do we need to do today to ensure the economy of tomorrow generates jobs for Northerners in all our regions?

6. What do you consider to be the best – and worst – features of the NWT?

7. In years to come, many of you will be leaders in your community and our Territory; if you had the chance to be the Premier – even for a day – what role would you see for yourself? What would you try to achieve and how would you do it?
